Documentation and procedures for works of art
Import and export of artworks
Formalities can differ significantly depending on the destination, the nature of the work and its declared value.
Temporary export
For exhibitions, fairs or restoration, temporary export may be considered, together with management of the deadlines and the return of the goods.
ATA carnet
In some cases, and for countries that are party to the system, an ATA carnet may be used. Applicability must be checked before organising the shipment.
Value documentation
Appraisals, invoices, declarations and photographic documentation may be requested to support the value declared to customs.
Possible authorisations and cultural heritage rules
For works that may fall under cultural heritage regulations, authorisations from the competent authorities may be required: this is checked on a case-by-case basis.
Transport, insurance and customs
Packing, carrier, insurance cover and customs procedures are coordinated on a single timeline to reduce handling and delays.
